Cost Estimation

Cost Estimation Services

Cestimating’s cost estimation service focuses on the MEP and HVAC work defined in your project documents. It connects the agreed quantities to material and labor inputs, keeping pricing assumptions, allowances and exclusions visible for contractor review.

What is included

  • Plan-based quantities for the agreed MEP or HVAC trades
  • Material cost breakdowns using the pricing basis agreed at intake
  • Labor categories, rates or units supplied or agreed for the assignment
  • Alternates, allowances and agreed indirect cost items shown separately
  • Trade summaries, exclusions and requested revision support

Who this is for

Contractors and project teams needing an auditable MEP/HVAC cost breakdown for bid review, trade comparisons or plan-based budgeting.

Your deliverable

A cost summary tied to the underlying quantities, with material, labor and agreed additional cost categories separated. This service does not imply an all-trades building estimate.

Scope checks before pricing

  • Identify which supplier quotations or internal rates should control pricing.
  • State whether tax, freight, equipment rental, overhead and profit belong in the requested output.
  • Separate allowances from measured quantities when design information is incomplete.

Every deliverable identifies the agreed inclusions and exclusions. Changes to the plans, requested trades or deadline may change the assignment and delivery commitment.

From drawings to a reviewable bid

  1. Send the current documents

Send the complete current drawings, specifications, equipment or fixture schedules, issued addenda, project city and state, bid deadline and the trades you need. Include your pricing instructions, required output format and exclusions.

  2. Confirm scope and output

Agree the trades, systems, quantities, pricing basis and required file format. Identify any addendum support or special breakdowns before work starts.

  3. Review the returned scope

Check quantities, assumptions and exclusions against the bid requirements. Reconcile supplier quotes and forward new addenda promptly.

Cost Estimation questions

Practical answers to help you choose a deliverable and prepare your bid scope.

What is included in construction cost estimation?

A detailed cost estimate combines quantities with material, labor and other agreed cost inputs. Cestimating’s current service focuses on MEP and HVAC scope; confirm any additional trades before assuming they are covered.

Can construction cost be estimated from square footage alone?

Area can support an early comparison, but it does not describe equipment selections, system complexity or installation conditions. A plan-based MEP/HVAC estimate needs the drawings, specifications and a defined scope for a more useful breakdown.

Can you use my vendor quotes and labor rates?

Yes. Supply dated quotations, labor rates or units, and the basis you want followed. The assignment should make clear which costs are provided by you and which inputs need confirmation.

Are overhead, profit and contingency included?

These items are included only when they are part of the agreed deliverable. State your preferred treatment at intake so direct costs and your business allowances remain distinguishable.

Is an estimate a guaranteed final construction price?

No. An estimate reflects its documents, scope and pricing assumptions at a point in time. Design changes, supplier quotations, site conditions and contracting decisions can affect the eventual construction cost.

How much do cost estimation services cost?

The estimating fee depends on drawing volume, system complexity, trade coverage, the deliverable and the deadline. Send the current plans for a scope-based quote. The fee for preparing an estimate is separate from the construction cost shown in that estimate.

How long does the work take?

Typical bid scopes target 24–48 hours after complete plans and scope confirmation. Larger, unusually detailed or multi-building packages are scheduled after review. Tell us your bid deadline before the assignment is confirmed.

What should I send to request a quote?

Send the complete current drawings, specifications, equipment or fixture schedules, issued addenda, project city and state, bid deadline and the trades you need. Include your pricing instructions, required output format and exclusions.

Are addenda and revisions included?

Addendum and revision support is agreed at intake. Send the changed drawings and specifications with their revision numbers; the affected scope, fee and delivery time are confirmed after review.

Send your plans for a scope-based quote.

Include the project location, current drawings and bid deadline. Typical bid scopes target 24–48 hours after scope confirmation.
