MEP Estimating Services
An MEP estimate brings mechanical, electrical and plumbing scope into one organized bid package. Cestimating works from the drawings and specifications you provide, separates the trades and records the assumptions behind the requested material, labor and cost breakdowns.
What is included
- Mechanical equipment, ductwork, fittings and mechanical piping shown in the documents
- Electrical fixtures, devices, panels, feeders, conduit and wire within the agreed scope
- Plumbing fixtures, piping, valves and specialties identified on the plans
- Trade summaries, material quantities and requested labor or cost extensions
- Documented exclusions, alternates and addenda included in the assignment
Who this is for
General contractors comparing trade coverage, MEP subcontractors managing bid deadlines, and developers reviewing a plan-based scope.
Your deliverable
A trade-separated estimate with quantities, units, requested material and labor columns, and assumptions that explain the scope. Confirm the spreadsheet and summary format at intake.
Scope checks before pricing
- Identify which contractor carries equipment connections, controls and shared supports.
- Separate owner-furnished equipment from contractor-furnished materials.
- Keep mechanical, electrical and plumbing allowances visible when information is incomplete.
Every deliverable identifies the agreed inclusions and exclusions. Changes to the plans, requested trades or deadline may change the assignment and delivery commitment.
From drawings to a reviewable bid
-
Send the current documents
Send the complete current drawings, specifications, equipment or fixture schedules, issued addenda, project city and state, bid deadline and the trades you need. Include your pricing instructions, required output format and exclusions.
-
Confirm scope and output
Agree the trades, systems, quantities, pricing basis and required file format. Identify any addendum support or special breakdowns before work starts.
-
Review the returned scope
Check quantities, assumptions and exclusions against the bid requirements. Reconcile supplier quotes and forward new addenda promptly.
Project locations
Our dedicated location guides cover Arizona and Florida. For a project elsewhere in the United States, send the location and plans so availability and scope can be confirmed before work is accepted.
MEP Estimating questions
Practical answers to help you choose a deliverable and prepare your bid scope.
What is MEP estimating?
MEP estimating is the process of quantifying and evaluating the mechanical, electrical and plumbing work shown in a project’s documents. A full estimate adds the agreed material pricing and labor assumptions to those quantities so a contractor can review the scope before bidding.
What is included in an MEP estimate?
The agreed package can include mechanical equipment and distribution, electrical systems, plumbing systems, trade-separated quantities, labor breakdowns and cost summaries. Fire protection, low-voltage systems or other specialties should be identified explicitly at intake; they are not automatically included.
What is the difference between MEP and HVAC estimating?
MEP estimating coordinates mechanical, electrical and plumbing trades. HVAC estimating concentrates on heating, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment, ductwork, piping and related accessories. Choose MEP for several trades and HVAC for a focused mechanical bid.
Can you estimate only one MEP trade?
Yes. Request mechanical, electrical or plumbing estimating when you need one trade. Identify the drawings, systems and exclusions so the quote reflects the work your team actually needs.
How accurate is an MEP estimate?
Reliability depends on the completeness of the drawings, the defined scope and the pricing and labor assumptions. Review exclusions, allowances and supplier quotations before submitting a bid. An estimate is a decision tool, not a guarantee of final construction cost.
How much do MEP estimating services cost?
The estimating fee depends on drawing volume, system complexity, trade coverage, the deliverable and the deadline. Send the current plans for a scope-based quote. The fee for preparing an estimate is separate from the construction cost shown in that estimate.
How long does the work take?
Typical bid scopes target 24–48 hours after complete plans and scope confirmation. Larger, unusually detailed or multi-building packages are scheduled after review. Tell us your bid deadline before the assignment is confirmed.
What should I send to request a quote?
Send the complete current drawings, specifications, equipment or fixture schedules, issued addenda, project city and state, bid deadline and the trades you need. Include your pricing instructions, required output format and exclusions.
Are addenda and revisions included?
Addendum and revision support is agreed at intake. Send the changed drawings and specifications with their revision numbers; the affected scope, fee and delivery time are confirmed after review.
Send your plans for a scope-based quote.
Include the project location, current drawings and bid deadline. Typical bid scopes target 24–48 hours after scope confirmation.
