Electrical Estimating

Electrical Estimating Services

Electrical estimating starts with the lighting plans, power layouts, schedules and specifications that define a bid. Cestimating organizes the requested devices, fixtures, distribution equipment, conduit and wire into a reviewable scope with material and labor separated as agreed.

What is included

  • Lighting fixtures, devices and controls shown in the plans
  • Panels, switchgear and distribution equipment within scope
  • Feeders, branch circuits, conduit and wire supported by the documents
  • Specified supports, accessories and electrical specialties
  • Material quantities, requested labor and cost summaries, and addenda notes

Who this is for

Electrical contractors and general contractors reviewing lighting, power and distribution scope or needing overflow takeoff support.

Your deliverable

An electrical quantity and estimate breakdown by system or work package, with the routing assumptions and specialty exclusions recorded for bid review.

Scope checks before pricing

  • Reconcile panel schedules, one-line diagrams and equipment connection notes.
  • Identify routing assumptions when exact conduit paths are not dimensioned.
  • Confirm separate responsibility for low-voltage, fire alarm, controls and utility work.

Every deliverable identifies the agreed inclusions and exclusions. Changes to the plans, requested trades or deadline may change the assignment and delivery commitment.

From drawings to a reviewable bid

  1. Send the current documents

Send the complete current drawings, specifications, equipment or fixture schedules, issued addenda, project city and state, bid deadline and the trades you need. Include your pricing instructions, required output format and exclusions.

  2. Confirm scope and output

Agree the trades, systems, quantities, pricing basis and required file format. Identify any addendum support or special breakdowns before work starts.

  3. Review the returned scope

Check quantities, assumptions and exclusions against the bid requirements. Reconcile supplier quotes and forward new addenda promptly.

Our dedicated location guides cover Arizona and Florida. For a project elsewhere in the United States, send the location and plans so availability and scope can be confirmed before work is accepted.

Electrical Estimating questions

Practical answers to help you choose a deliverable and prepare your bid scope.

What is included in an electrical estimate?

An electrical estimate can include fixtures, devices, panels, switchgear, feeders, branch circuits, conduit, wire and agreed accessories. Material and labor can be separated. Specialty systems are included only when explicitly requested.

How are conduit and wire quantities measured?

The takeoff follows the routes, circuit information, schedules and details available in the drawings. When routing is not fully defined, the estimate should identify its measurement assumptions so your team can review them.

Does electrical estimating include low-voltage systems?

Low-voltage, communications, security and fire-alarm systems need a separate scope confirmation. Supply their drawings and specifications and identify whether they belong in your bid or another contractor’s package.

Can I use my own electrical labor rates?

Yes. Provide your labor rates or requested labor-unit basis and explain the installation conditions you want reflected. The agreed format can keep quantities and labor inputs separate for your review.

What drawings do you need for an electrical estimate?

Send lighting and power plans, panel schedules, one-line diagrams, fixture schedules, details, specifications and issued addenda. Include equipment connection requirements and any bid-scope exclusions.

How much do electrical estimating services cost?

The estimating fee depends on drawing volume, system complexity, trade coverage, the deliverable and the deadline. Send the current plans for a scope-based quote. The fee for preparing an estimate is separate from the construction cost shown in that estimate.

How long does the work take?

Typical bid scopes target 24–48 hours after complete plans and scope confirmation. Larger, unusually detailed or multi-building packages are scheduled after review. Tell us your bid deadline before the assignment is confirmed.

What should I send to request a quote?

Send the complete current drawings, specifications, equipment or fixture schedules, issued addenda, project city and state, bid deadline and the trades you need. Include your pricing instructions, required output format and exclusions.

Are addenda and revisions included?

Addendum and revision support is agreed at intake. Send the changed drawings and specifications with their revision numbers; the affected scope, fee and delivery time are confirmed after review.

Send your plans for a scope-based quote.

Include the project location, current drawings and bid deadline. Typical bid scopes target 24–48 hours after scope confirmation.
